A regular joint for our favorite irregulars.

Drink in the most Colorado part of Colorado.

The Oak Creek Tavern is South Routt's favorite neighborhood bar, right on Main Street - right where it's been since 1908. It’s a privilege to bring people together, and we’re proud to serve Rocky Mountain Pizzas, bar pretzels, all the beer you’d expect for a historic coal town, and just about any type of drink that you’re into. Open seven days a week, with special events weekly - including bingo and live music - and voted Routt County’s BEST BAR with the BEST HAPPY HOUR by the readers of the Steamboat Pilot & Today!

A bar by bar people for bar people.

Well, our story is simple: We’re Westerners who believe that the magic of the Old West lives on today in communities just like Oak Creek - and that bars foster the sense of community that we all long for at some level.

Here’s how you can join in:

Everybody is welcome here. From hippies to hunters to ranchers, cowboys, coal miners, ski bums and everybody in between, you’ll feel right at home - even if you’re visiting from out of town. High-end cocktails your thing? No problem: We can make ‘em, and we can make ‘em great. In fact, we’ve got South Routt’s most diverse liquor selection. But we’re just as happy to serve up the cheap, reliable shots and beer that folks have come to count on for generations, here.

We’re open seven days a week. There’s nothing worse than getting off a long shift or rolling through a new town only to find that everything is closed. Here’s our promise: We’ll be open and welcoming you every day of the week, from at least 3:30pm to 9:00pm. Most nights, we’re open much later than that. Many days, we’ll open early. The bottom line is that if the cactus in the window is glowing, we’d love if you stopped in to see us. We often bring our communities together through bingo, live music, family game night, and more. The best way to see what we’re up to? Check Facebook.

We’re a tavern. What’s that mean? Well, we’re proud to serve delicious, Colorado-made bar pizzas - and no drinker’s bar would be worth its salt without chips or hot pretzels, so we’ve got those, too. What we don’t have is a kitchen. If you’re looking for a full-service type of joint, try our friends at Dueling D’s BBQ & Grill, Kate’s Cafe, the Colorado Bar & Grill, or Franciosi Brothers. We’d love to welcome you in for an after-dinner nightcap - and if we’re open, rest assured we’re serving our full fare.

What people say about us…

“It’s much more than a place to play music and sell drinks. It’s a communal space for people to share the news, commiserate hardship and celebrate achievement.”

Rocky Mountain PBS, June 13, 2023

“A long-held dream…”

The Wall Street Journal, November 28, 2022

“I think a bar, especially in a community this size, functions as a town hall. In a town this size, everybody’s a regular and everybody’s a celebrity.”

Steamboat Pilot & Today, March 21, 2022

“It’s exactly where it needs to be. For however long you’re sitting and drinking and talking with the locals, it’s the center of the universe. Stop in sometime. You just might get a good story out of it.”

Denver Westword, October 13, 2021
